Banana fibre; abaca fibre

textile [[101486|fibre]] from vascular bundles of the leaf sheathes of the banana tree, a perennial, equatorial plant. Is the strongest of all bast fibres. Distinguished by its resistance to bending, decay and salt water. Also known as "Manila hemp", while aboriginals refer to it as "abaca".
