Block printing; hand printing

the creating of patterns of one or more than one colour on [[101358|textile fabrics]] by the use of printing inks and wooden printing blocks with a relief of wood or metal. Each colour of the pattern needs its own block. B. p. is the oldest printing technique. It is still used in the printing of fabrics for use in ladies' dresses, scarves and shawls, most typically in folk designs.
