Bowler; bowler hat

man's hat which has a narrow, even brim gently rounded at its edge and a stiff, bulbous top. It is black, exceptionally grey. In the middle of the 19th century it took over from the [[100157|top hat]] and became a component of gentleman's outdoor clothing. Although today it is falling into disuse, it is remembered as part of the typical attire of the Londoner {in combination with the umbrella}.
