design created by the use of two or more colours of yarn in the warp and weft, which form coloured patterns in squares or rectangles. In most cases in the direction of the warp the c. d. is slightly elongated. A wide variety of colour combinations can be used in the thread and weave. C. d. is very popular in all types of fabric; its shapes and colours can be adapted to meet the demands of fashion.
