Chenille fabric

soft, bulky, one-colour, (typically) patterned fabric in linen or gauze weave, with a high pile created by a weft from specially treated chenille yarns. One-sided c. f. is used predominantly for carpets. Reversible c. f. is used for bath towels, bathrobes, shawls, scarves, and curtains. In view of the complexity of its production, c. f. is falling into disuse. The name of the fabric is given by the yarn used in its production.
