Coachman cloth

fine, felted, midweight woollen fabric with a short, lustrous pile concealing a twill or satin weave; produced from fine carded yarns with a characteristic lustre achieved by a special finish. Used for ladies' coats and formal clothing. The name is taken from the English; this type of fabric was indeed used for the coats of coachmen.
