light- to midweight [[100079|cotton fabric]], with lengthwise, relief pile ribbing formed in the pile weft. The base fabric is entwined in the three-bond weft of [[10494;|twill]] or [[10951;|linen]]. Produced in various weights with ribbing of various widths. Types of lighter weight are used in children's and ladies' clothing, types of heavier weight for sports and work clothing. The word "corduroy" means "velvet ribbed lengthwise"; it is also known as [[100692|Manchester velvet]].
