Dress

ladies' outer sleeved garment, which covers the trunk and the upper parts of the lower limbs. The d. forms the basis of a ladies' wardrobe. It may be of one or more pieces and is typically composed of a skirt and sleeved bodice with a collar; it may also be sleeveless and collarless. A d. is usually unlined, and it comes in a variety of shapes which are determined by trends in fashion. We distinguish between the empire-line robe, cocktail d., shirt d., maternity d., princess d., formal d., wedding d., dance d., evening d. and trail d.
