completion of a buttonhole, slit or vent, or pocket; performed by hand or machine, usually as part of a decorative finish in various renderings (eg., triangular, circular). We distinguish between a straight close - which takes the form of a short, straight row of stitches - and a wedge-shaped close, which is used to decorate a slit, vent, fold or crease.
