ladies' formal garment, which usually is close-fitting above the waist and has a large decolletage. The skirt is luxuriously gathered, and it may be short, long, or mid-length. The materials used are fine and lightweight, often transparent, and the most popular include taffeta, brocade, lace and velvet.
