Finish; finishing

general term for all technological methods for the refining of textile fabrics, the purpose of which is to improve look, surface, touch and other properties/qualities after weaving or knitting. A f. may be permanent, i.e. it cannot be washed out, or with an effect of limited duration. We divide f. into mechanical (applied in dry conditions) and chemical (applied in wet conditions). The basic f. are: antistatic f., dyeing, grinding, decatizing, fixation, milled f., foulé f., gaufrage, hydrophobic f., chemical cloqué, calendering, lacquer f., dulling, melton f., mercerizing, moiré f., fireproof f., crease-resistant f., anti-felt f., water-resistant f., shrinkproof f., ant-soiling f., printing, mothproof f.., ratteening, fast-drying f., cloth f., stiffening f., velours f., gloss pile fabric f..
