Lace stitch

one-face knit with a broken, perforated pattern formed by the carrying over of stitches, by one needle to the left or to the right. This carry-over of stitches creates an opening in the knit. Individual stitches or whole groups of stitches may be carried over, meaning that a variety of patterns can be created. Also, half of the stitches only can be carried over (half-lace stitch); in this case the openings created are smaller than with regular l. s.
