Lapel; lapel collar
composed of [[100511|lapels]] and a [[101060|fall-on collar]]. One of the most important indicators of the fashion style of a garment. There are several basic types: open, closed, shawl-style and open-neck. The open l. stands at an angle of approx. 90°. The angle of the closed l. is such that its opening is very slight. The shawl-style l. has no angle and is generally without seams: its lapel and collar are composed of a single piece. The open-neck l. has a small lapel and a larger collar: the lapel can be detached and fastened below the neck; it is used most commonly in loden coats and shirts.
