low-cost, midweight woollen fabric which is soft and full to the touch; has a short-cut pile which conceals its three-end weft twill or four-end reversible twill weave. Produced from cotton yarn in the warp and fine carded semi-woollen yarn in the weft. Used for low-cost men's suits and uniforms. O'Connell is a corruption of the English "of coney" - the hair that the fabric's surface resembles.
