lustrous fabric which is somewhat coarse to the [[100849|touch]] and has longitudinal, transverse or angled ribbing given by its weave and a suitable yarn. Where the ribs have the same width, we refer to plain r.; mixed r. has ribs of differing sizes. There are the following forms of r.: [[101123|barré]], [[101124| coteline]], [[101125|faconné]], [[101126|mouliné]], [[101127|ondé]], [[101128|ottoman]], [[101129|papillon]], [[101130|piqué]] and [[101131|pilot]]. The name is given by the German "Rippe" (= rib).
