Setting; fixation

finishing process, by which the qualities of synthetic fibres, yarns or finished [[101358|textiles]] are stabilized or enhanced, or protected against later deformation. The principle of s./f. is the releasing of the inner structure of the fibre and adapting to meet requirements of dimension and shape as the state is stabilized. The s./f. of synthetic materials is performed by the action of dry heat(hot air, heat contact, thermal radiation) or by means of humidity (saturated or warmed-through steam at a temperature of between 110°C and 130°C). Polyamide and polyester fibres are set by the action of dry heat.
