Skirt

ladies' outer garment which covers the figure from the waist down; a practically indispensable item of the lady's wardrobe. Worn with a blouse or sweater, and may also form part of a suit. Changes in the length and width of the s. are influenced by fashions in ladies' clothing as a whole. S. come in a great many shapes, which are largely determined by the cut. We distinguish between: button-down s., divided s., wrap-over s., pleated s., straight s., swinging s., folded s., dress-like sleeveless s., wrap-around s. and bell-shaped s..
