Stiffener

very stiff, medium-thick flaxen fabric, which is smooth to the touch; in linen weave and produced from medium-fine and coarse yarns. Stiffened by mangling or calendering. Coarser varieties with a close sett are used as a tailor's lining for ladies' and men's coats, and in finer form for ladies' and men's jackets.
