Stitch; loop

basic element of the weave of a knit, created by the threading together of loops or othet stitches. Instead of the point at which different stitches cross, it is the binding point of the knit. A s. is composed of a needle arc, two walls and two sinker semi-arcs. A face s. is formed if the loop is threaded from back to front, with the walls of the s. prominent; a back s. is formed if the loop is pulled through from front to back, with the arc of the s. prominent.
