Taffeta (3)

thick woollen fabric which is somewhat stiff to the touch, and has a fine transverse ribbing achieved by a linen weave and a two-pick warp. Mostly dyed in a single piece. Its changeable (changeant)look is given by contrasting colours in the warp and weft. Used for ladies' formal dresses. The name is given by the Italian "taffeta" (= lustrous).
