Ticking (cloth); drill

cotton or flax fabric of medium thickness with a distinctive weavein a pattern of squares, rectangles or other geometric figures alternating in the warp and the weft of twill or satin weaves by the maintaining of sharp turns in the weaving sequence at the division of the warp and weft binding points. Used for towels and tablecloths. In lively colours t. forms part of some folk costumes.
