Twill-backed weave

produced from a [[100954|linen w.]], which is alternated with areas of free-lying warp or weft threads. These more freely woven places give the w. its characteristic notched relief ribbing, which can be longitudinal, transverse or angled. This w. comes in a wide range of renderings and is used in [[100079|cotton]], [[100367|silk]] and [[101499|woollen fabrics]].
