Velours (1)

woollen fabric which is soft to the touch and has a velvet-like, thick, short pile which covers its twill or satin weave. Is mid- to heavyweight and from single carded yarns. Used for ladies' and men's coats. The name is given by the French ("velours" = velvet). V. is widely but incorrectly known as fleece.
