Washed-out appearance; faded appearance
[[101358|textile fabrics]] ([[101366|woven fabrics]] and [[100965|knits]]) and garments in fashionable shapes, which by washing attain the look of being old and washed-out. This finish was first used with [[100183|denim]], but was later applied also to [[101499|woollen fabrics]] and [[100965|knits]], especially in the clothing of young people. These artificially aged, washed-out cotton and woollen fabrics which are very soft to the [[100849|touch]], were particularly popular in the fashionable trousers of the late 1980s. The name is derived from the English.
