Washed-out appearance; faded appearance

textile fabrics (woven fabrics and knits) and garments in fashionable shapes, which by washing attain the look of being old and washed-out. This finish was first used with denim, but was later applied also to woollen fabrics and knits, especially in the clothing of young people. These artificially aged, washed-out cotton and woollen fabrics which are very soft to the touch, were particularly popular in the fashionable trousers of the late 1980s. The name is derived from the English.
