Appliqué

Decorative supplement to a fabric, achieved by the stitching or sticking on of a separate, often bright or highly obvious cut-out of a [[101366|fabric]], [[100965|knit]] or leather from a different base textile. Used to create a great variety of simple and more sophisticated graphic motifs. A. may be supplemented with embroidery. A. was especially popular in [[101092|clothing of the Renaissance period]], and had been used earlier in the [[100539|clothing of the Copts]].
